Week #4 of no new comics brings us some major announcements and some stabilization. Diamond Distribution announced "while there are many steps and conversations that need to happen between today and resuming distribution of new weekly product, we are currently targeting mid- to late-May with the hope that, as an industry, we can all work toward that timeframe... product that was originally scheduled for release on April 1st and 8th will be distributed over a longer period, allowing publishers to work with printers to deliver new product without further interruption." Diamond also furloughed some employees and cut executive pay.
DC Comics, on the other hand, declared "DC comic books are returning to comic shops beginning Tuesday, April 28. After a four-week break, fans can celebrate that new superhero stories will be arriving at operating retail stores." They will be distributing to comic retailers via Lunar Distributors (Discount Comic Book Service) and UCS Comic Distributors (Midtown Comics). Writer James Tynion IV advised "...we're holding Batman #92 back for a June release, so we can make sure to get it to as many of you as possible on its release day." Diamond's response was "we value our partnership with DC and will continue to support them as a distributor. Our focus is squarely on getting our industries' entertainment products in the hands of fans as quickly and as safely as possible. As we shared this morning with our vendors and retailers, we are currently building our restart plans and targeting mid- to late-May to being shipping new weekly product. If we see signs that it is safe to resume shipping earlier, we certainly will. However, with the limited number of retailers open and most customers on stay-at-home orders, our focus is on supporting our industry and the health and safety of our stakeholders."
While we are waiting for new comics, let's help out comic book retailers by participating in the #Creators4Comics charity auction that will benefit the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC).
Also, Things From Another World is continuing their Find Something New sale. Other comic retailers are continuing to sell in-stock items online.
And, keep checking here for the latest updates on release dates. We are working everyday to get the best information regarding rescheduled comics, just as we have for 25 years.
Remember, when you order any of these titles NOW instead of waiting closer to the release date, whether here or at your local comic book shop, you save money AND you save the time of hunting down the issue after it sells out.
